Learning to play hockey is more than just playing a game. It's life lessons passed on from one generation to the next. The Waves want to thank the Providence College Women's Hockey Team who joined us for our first learn to Play session at Tony Kent Arena on January 8th.

The Cape Cod Waves Girls Ice Hockey Program was established as a non-profit organization in 1996. Our organization is committed to excellence in girls ice hockey. We encourage players to develop and compete at their highest level.

The Waves provide opportunity to be challenged, experience the camaraderie of organized team sports, and develop skills that will help them pursue playing hockey at the high school, prep-school, and college levels.

THANK YOU LADY FRIARS
The Providence College Women's Hockey Team was on-hand to launch the WAVES' 2012 Learn-to-Play session. More than 50 girls took the ice, and filled Tony Kent Arena with pink tape and smiles. The Lady Friars skated with the girls, then stayed for autographs. PC's players were completely engaged with the Ripples, who were as young as 4-years old, for more than 2 hours.

The NCAA's Hockey East (Division I) is the premier league for women's hockey. Providence College is a perennial powerhouse in Hockey East, but more importantly to the 50 girls who took the ice Sunday, they are also exceptional ambassadors for the women's game!

This is the Friars first of three trips to Massachusetts in a week. PC will play Dartmouth at Fenway Park on Tuesday. They return to the Bay State on Sunday to face-off with Hockey East rivals Northeastern at The Bog in Kingston.

Good Luck to the Lady Friars! We hope the team's week ends as successfully as it began. We are also looking forward to seeing the Lady Friars return to Cape Cod in March for Hockey East's Final Four!

Lining up before the start of their first game - The D-Y Varsity Girls Hockey Team

GAME OF THE AGES
10 DEC 2011
It's High School Hockey season and Waves Players are wearing their school Jerseys and playing against each other like no other season before. Barnstable HS JV played Sandwich HS JV on December 3rd. Katie Quilty (U19 Sharks), Tayleece Hopkins(14 Blue), Claire Deely (U14 White), Hannah Ricci (U14 White),and Olivia Dubin (U14 White) from Barnstable teed off against the Sandwich HS team with Nicole Martin (U14 White), playing defense and Savannah Eastman (U14 Blue) in net. The face-offs with Waves girls on opposite ends were priceless. Maddie Alper (U19 Sharks) also plays for Barnstable JV but has been healing an injury.

Most recently The D-Y High School Girls Varsity Hockey Team began their inaugural season against Barnstable High School JV on December 10th at Tony Kent Arena. A packed house watched an intense battle on the ice. U19 Blue Sharks Coach Stephanie Scarpato is the new Head Coach of the D-Y team. Ten current Waves players play for Dennis-Yarmouth Varsity: Katie Donohue (U14 White), Michaela Donohue (U19 Sharks), Jessica Benoit (U19 Sharks), Taylor McDowell (U14 White), Kristina Cheverie (U14 White), Sam Shastany (U19 Sharks), Kalyana Wisniewski (U14 Blue), Alicia Peirce (U14 Blue), Jessica Linnell (U19 Sharks), and Lyndsy Ransom (U14 White). Jessica Benoit had the honor of scoring the 1st D-Y goal ever, followed by Alicia Peirce and Kristina Cheverie. Olivia Dubin from Barnstable got the game winner late in the 3rd period, with Barnstable winning 4-3.

Try to catch one of these games and cheer on our Waves players. Congratulations to the D-Y Girls Varsity Hockey Team. You are on your way. More to come on High School Hockey including Barnstable High School Varsity featuring more Waves Players from the U19 Sharks.
